An EF-5 tornado is known to be over 200 miles per hour and create incredible damage. Under these types of pressures and winds, strong frame houses will be ripped from foundations and carried away, along with cars and other large objects that will be sent flying for miles. Many homes and businesses were damaged due to the record breaking flooding that hit Illinois this past April 2013. Governor Pat Quinn says $190 million in federal grants and loans will be awarded to help Illinois residents and businesses in 35 counties recover from April floods. Federal aid to the designated disaster areas includes $143 million in grants to help the estimated 58,000 residents whose homes were damaged or destroyed. Additionally, the U.S. Small Business Association also approved another $47 million in loans.
If you were many of the residents who didn’t have flood insurance, you can still apply for a federal grant. The cutoff date was originally set for late July, but the Federal Emergency Management Agency approved the state’s request for a 15-day extension, making the extension date August 8th.
Grants can be used to help with home repairs, replacement of damaged personal property and other disaster-related expenses.

Experiencing a fire in your home or business is devastating in itself, but handling your own fire damage insurance claim is risky.
All insurance policies require a policy holder to report their loss as soon as it is reasonably possible. You can comply by calling your agent, your insurance carrier directly, or enlisting in the help of a public adjuster. After a claim is filed, the insurance company will request a number of documents from you including a “proof of loss” which is an itemized statement of your losses that list the values of your damaged property. On average, most policy holders do not know the cost of repairs or what it entails. Fire damage needs to be photographed and documented carefully. You need someone to assist you with writing an estimate, reviewing your insurance policy, and negotiating and settling your fire damage insurance claim.
Don’t let the insurance company take advantage of you at such a vulnerable time. Let a licensed public adjuster assist you with your fire damage insurance claim from the beginning, so that you get the money you need for your fire damage. Even if you filed your own insurance claim, and are currently working with the insurance adjuster, it’s not too late to hire a public adjuster. Call us today for a risk free evaluation of your fire damage insurance claim.
