A slow-moving storm brought as much as 10 inches Saturday in south Springfield, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood emergency for parts of south Springfield – the most serious warning the National Weather Service can issue. This is the first time in Springfield history for this alert to be issued.
The area hardest hit appears to be south Springfield and the unincorporated area of Greene County just south of the city. Traffic on Campbell near of James River Freeway was slowed to a crawl as water rushed over the road at several spots.
